Like that dress you wore to your cousins wedding, yeah that you spent $150 on, and hung it in the closet till you get tired of it being there. Or those old gator shoes, you just cant seem to part with because your the only guy out of your friends who has them.
Even for kids, who are constantly growing out and into clothes everyday. Let them all go, there is someone out there looking for the very items you are holding on to, that have no value if your just letting it sit in a bag in the garage or a box or hanging in the very back of your closet. I repeat, Let them go!
First, I would like for you to pull everything out of your closet, everything! This is also a way to get organized and find that $20 you thought you lost months ago. Throw everything on the bed because the floor is your working space, so make sure its clear of unwanted clutter.
Once you have everything out and on the bed, piece by piece asses the clothing, shoes or accessory checking for stains and rips. Depending on the condition have a separate pile for everything, such as:
Keep pile
Trash pile
Sell pile
Give Away pile
even a Think About It pile
As you see, each pile has its purpose. When looking at the items condition, don't just throw away items with small tears because if it is still like new it can be sold as with conditions expressed to buyer. It can also still be given away to thrift store who sometime are able to fix those small damages. Those items that you throw in the trash, make sure that they are really damaged beyond fixing.
After you have all your piles sorted, go ahead and throw out the trash pile of items that are not salvageable. You can replace the Keep pile back into the closet if you like to get it out the way.
Go ahead and box that up and set it in the car for a quick drive to the clothing drop-off or nearest thrift shop.
